Ministry & Outreach
How beautiful are the feet of those that bring good news. - Romans 10:15
The Ridge family participates in many outreach and ministry opportunities that help to provide growth for our friends, our neighbors, and our members. We have always been active in our community and have a long history of reaching out to support many organizations in our area.
Food Pantry Collection
The first Sunday of the month is our pantry Sunday when we bring non-perishable items to be given to Cristiana Camino, Verdad y Vida (Christian Church – Way, Truth and Life} a very dedicated church in the northeast area of KC working relentlessly to serve their community.
Boy / Cub Scouts
The Ridge has sponsored Troop and Pack 269 since 1953. They’re active with camping, food drives and service projects. There’s canoeing, bicycling, boating, pine wood derby, chili supper and pancake breakfast. Parents and volunteers help to make the program a success. They meet every Monday at 7:00 pm.
The Prayer Shawl ministry team knits, crochets, and prays as they use their time and talents in service. Their beautifully made shawls, after being prayed upon, are given to those needing comfort. To date they have distributed over 450 shawls around the community. They meet every Tuesday at 10:00 am.
Golden Key Club
Golden Key Club is an organization for retired men and women who like to have Fun, Fellowship and good Food. They meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon for a catered meal ranging in price from $5.00 to $10.00. After the meal they have a short business meeting followed by enjoyable entertainment.
Coat, Hat & Scarf Winter Months Distribution
We keep a coat rack in our entry area filled with a selection of coats, hats and scarves. During the regular business hours the doors are open for anyone to come and take what they need. There’s no need to enter the church.
Helping to teach skills to 16-21 year old’s who are preparing to live independently as they transition from a residence housing offered them at a time when they were homeless. We help Steppingstone by providing assistance financially and by collecting household items for the apartments the older clients live in. Such items are then taken with them when they transition to independent living.
Story Link – Prison Ministry
Story Link, a program under Liberty Belle Ministries, supported by our church through fall sales of nuts and treats gives offenders an opportunity to record a book (with help from a Volunteer in Corrections) and have it sent to any child. The money earned through the sales is used to purchase CDs and mailing/postage supplies for Chillicothe Correctional Center where one of our members volunteers. More volunteers are needed if you have an interest in prison ministry.
The United Women in Faith
The United Women in Faith focus on ministries with women, children and youth locally and globally. They’re committed to inclusiveness; financial support; development of skills for service and leadership and personal growth. And they work with other organizations on issues of mutual concern. They have an active group “EVEning Circle” that meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 pm.
Christmas Books for Ronald McDonald House
Every year we ask members to turn in old Christmas cards so our United Women in Faith can collect the beautiful art and graphics. They categorize them, glue them onto a page with a typed paragraph, and make them into books. These Christmas Story books are given to Ronald McDonald House for children and families to enjoy and take with them. The UWFaith assembles these books in the fall.
Blair’s Foster Socks
We’ve been a proud supporter of Blair’s Foster Socks by collecting and helping to distribute brightly colored socks since Blair’s tragic death on July 4, 2011. Blair’s Foster Socks brings comfort and hope to children in distressed situations with the gift of clean, fun socks and scholarships. Collections are are ongoing.
Our vision, Connecting People Along The Way, is our guiding force in ministry. We provide a warm welcome, friendly handshake and a fresh brewed cup of coffee to all who enter. We connect with visitors to make them feel welcome and comfortable. ALL are welcome at The Ridge.
Pastry and Prayer
On an occasional Saturday when the weather cooperates, our volunteers distribute free pastry along with a prayer, sometimes even hand held, to every car that pulls into the drive-way. We realize everyone can benefit from prayer and we offer them freely. If you can use a little uplifting stop by the front of our church on a Saturday when you see the sign displayed.
Diapers and Wipes for Babies
We have an ongoing collection of diapers and wipes because cloth diapers are not always an option at daycares. And often families are having to struggle even more with ever tighter budgets because of other necessities. We deliver our donations to Mother’s Refuge and REAP.
The women of “Connecting Hands” who meet once a month, would like to invite you to join them for a game of Hand and Foot or maybe Bridge. Call the church for information. Join in the fun – it’s a great way to socialize and enjoy fellowship and make new friends. They meet the 4th Wednesday of the month 12:30-3:30 pm, February – October.
Pop Tops for Ronald McDonald House
The United Women in Faith collect pop-tops to be recycled with money earned to be given to the Ronald McDonald House where it’s used to support families with children in the hospital that stay at the house or visit the Ronald McDonald Family Room. They recently made a pop-top delivery of eight pounds!
Partnership with Teachers
We’ve partnered with a local middle school to provide encouragement and words of support to staff with notes of gratitude and appreciation written by church members as well as snacks for teachers to distribute for their sometimes hungry students. During the cooler months they have received hot chocolate and muffins to enjoy.
